Complete Unfinished Tasks

Complete Unfinished TasksUnfinished tasks can weigh your creative energy down more than you think. Within the next 48 hours, set aside one hour to grab a handful of 5- or 10-minute tasks-in-progress and get them done. Try putting your brain into the same gear you use when you are just about to go on vacation-that highly productive drive of "must-do's". Write out a list and check them off as you go.

Remember, these are tasks you've started that will take almost no time at all to finish, like that one project you started to schedule but didn't quite get done; the employee you promised a follow-up email to; the half-sorted files on your desk that are adding clutter to your work space; and any other little thing that you just haven't got around to completing.

Often when we clear away these unfinished tasks, there is so much more space for new ideas to enter. We gain a lightness in spirit that makes our thinking more creative. Ease moves in and effort moves out. An internal breath of fresh air comes sweeping into our stuffy psyche and gets everything moving again.

By underestimating how weighty these small, uncompleted tasks are, we often compromise our creative ability without even knowing it. Unfinished business waits to be finished and it will hold up the whole show until it gets done.

So what big ideas and insights are waiting behind your unfinished tasks? Take just 1 hour in the next 48 and find out.
