Smart Art Exercise:  Hidden Gifts

Smart Art Exercise: Hidden GiftsEveryone wants to work for a great company. This team exercise is designed to reveal insights into the hidden potential—and greatness—in your company, with the added bonus of re-energizing your team by focusing on the positive.

What You'll Need:
  • Cardboard boxes (one per person)
  • Stacks of magazines (the more varieties, the better)
  • Glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Notepads and pens
  • A flip chart with the following instructions written on it

Instructions:
  1. Cut pictures from the magazines that represent the positive gifts that our company gives to the world. In your view, what are we known for? What are our strengths? What benefits do we provide? Glue these on the OUTSIDE of the box.
  2. Now cut pictures that represent the hidden gifts of our company. In your view, what could we be known for? What strengths do we have that we haven't yet fully maximized? What benefits could we provide to enhance what we already offer? Collect these images INSIDE the box.
  3. One-by-one, take each image from inside the box and come up with answers to: "In what ways could our company be known for this gift?" Write your ideas down on the notepad.
When everyone is done, let each person have a show-and-tell of the gift box they created and their ideas, without interruptions from the group and with applause at the end. Set a time limit in advance so that people can highlight what they feel is most important.
